Job Description

Southampton Union Free School District is seeking qualified internal candidates to serve as a Special Olympics Chaperone.

The Special Olympics Chaperone provides supervision and support to student-athletes participating in Special Olympics activities and events. The successful candidate will help ensure a safe, positive, and inclusive environment while assisting students throughout practices, competitions, and related activities.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and support students during Special Olympics events and activities.
• Assist with student safety, behavior, and participation.
• Encourage positive sportsmanship and inclusion.
• Work collaboratively with coaches and staff to support student success.
• Perform other duties related to the position as assigned.

Qualifications

• Experience working with students with disabilities, particularly students receiving special education services, preferred.
• Ability to establish positive relationships with students and staff.
• Dependable, patient, and able to work effectively in a team environment.

Salary: Compensation is in accordance with the Southampton Teachers Association (STA) Agreement.

• $150 rate applicable to "Chaperone — Out of District (field trips)- less than 5 hours
• $250 rate applicable to "Chaperone — Out of District (field trips) - more than 5 hours
• $250 rate applicable  for chaperoning an Overnight trip * total compensation for each day of the such trip which includes an overnight component.
